What do you think, will people still play DotA 1 when new DotA come? Many people have played DotA for a years and maybe they won't replace DotA 1 with DotA 2... What do you think about it?

That is actually a very good question. but from what I think, other will continue to play DotA 1. especially if Dota 2 integrates an account system. plus, the possibility of high system requirements. there are actually alot of factors that will affect this matter, but I dont think it will affect DotA 1 community "instantly". but gradually. its just like Counter-Strike 1.3 and CS: Source. it didnt happen overnight.

Yes, DotA 1 will decrease and DotA 2 will increase their popularity for a time... maybe...

I fear that DotA 1 will suffer dramatic loss of players when DotA 2 comes out, but that's inevitable. As Fiyah said and i agree with him, it won't happen over night. But it will happen. But those are just basic rules of nature, stronger and better lives.

But look at the game Call of Duty. Now CoD has about 6-7 parts in serial. And I think that CoD 2 is still the most popular online game between all CoD games... Maybe DotA 1 will stay popular as now.

I don't know if you can compare it to hon or lol. No serious decrease when those came out. But Dota 2 will probably become a bit more popular amongst dota players.
Dota still have a big playerbase, and I don't think it will decline quickly, even with dota 2.

Depends on how different DotA 2 is from DotA 1.
I mean, Starcraft 1 and 2 have different playstyles and strategies. A lot of people argue that SC1 is better than SC2 competitively.

In the end though, there will be a split between the communities of DotA1, DotA2, HoN, and LoL.

I agree with you. there might be a split.

Real question is how much split will there be between dota 1 and 2 community? Will players, when they start to play DotA 2 come to it's "parent" game, or will they stay on DotA 2 for good.

If there is a split, and there will surely be, it's nothing too important. There will always be fan groups for all kinds of DotA re-makes. what's important is to make DotA 2 community as quality as possible. Here, on this forum!

Can't wait to see some new categories with DotA 2 guides, discussions and so on. Some hall-of-fame category for epic guides would be also cool ;)

Well it depends on wheter you will have to pay for dota 2 and about its requirements.. But still i think there will be a lot to stay on dota 1

A lot of people will stick to their free game. It also depends a lot on what IceFrog will do, if he focuses on DotA2 and gives it lots of updates more and more ppl will continue purchasind Dota2, but if people tell to their friends that DotA has more updates, that would be a big CON

i dont really believe in the difference between system requirements, there is always an option to play games with lowest graphics and stuff and this kind of game does not needs a lot, it is a small map, the only laggy moments would be animating a lot of effects in big team battles

I don't think it will dramaticly decrease....lot of DotA gamers don't even know anything about Dota 2.

not really, i keep asking around garena and there is a lot of great dota fans who are excited, and there are also these kids who say that HoN or LoL is better even though they were playing DotA, lol

I think they all will be aware of Dota2 when the release comes closer.

I also didn't hear for DotA 2... First time I heard for it was about 1 month before...

Ive been telling my friends about DotA 2 but they cant seem to appreciate it. They were all like, "if they change the graphics, then it wont be DotA." pffff. Cavemen.

They are partly true... and this is what I was talking about in previous posts - some people don't want changes and it's difficult that they'll stop play DotA and start to play DotA 2...

Well, remember that there is a looooong way until the game is released and there is already a lot of ppl who knows about it ^^ so from now until it is released everyone will know, also it only takes IceFrog to say that Dota2 is awesome for everyone to believe it, hahaha. And you can tell Dota 2 will have a very big audience, just think about HoN and LoL, they kind of suck, and many many ppl bought that piece of junk, now imagine for something IceFrog developed
