i agree with endzeit. although you too have valid point miki. we are here to talk about dota 2 and to share our opinions and thoughts. this thread is exactly for that.

We can't say exactly what will be, but as you can see, a lot of topics are like this one and this is purpose of them, we have to share ideas there.

Dota 1 will dramtically decrease its popularity but there are many factors to consider before making a conclusion. Like high system requirements as written in the last post and also if it is free2play..But maybe there is still a lot of dota 1 players who will stay to it but with this matter HON and LOL will be greatly affected.

So conclusion is that we can't say exactly, we can just preddict...

from what i have read through our blog entries, 90% of people are sure that dota 2 will, over time, take all players.

Eventually but some countries like China will surely take a lot of time to switch to Dota 2 (unlike with developed countries, where the gaming industry is seen froma different perspective and people are willing to spend money on new games)...

Also the example of Korea can be relevant in this discussion: All the Koreans are playing Starcraft I Brood War. They are not switching to SCII because they just don't see the need to for better graphics and improved gameplay, they are also used to it and its hard to shift collectively as a group (they have an enormous community) to a new game... Im afraid the same thing can happen if Dota 2 doesn't bring many new awesome features.

As long as the PRO teams switch to Dota2, then everyone will (and i have heard that they are ready to switch )

personally when hon and lol hit i noticed a drastic decline in active dota 1 games at least for west coast server when i try and find a game it can up to hour before one starts even if i host it

Ok, but question is about Dota 1 and Dota 2...

I'm absolutely sure that the DotA 1 popularity will decrease significantly when DotA 2 comes. Unless valvfrog is making a "new" DotA and by that I mean maybe new maps and heroes. Which is not a bad thing btw, but I think many DotA players wants all the same heroes and uniqueness' there were in DotA.

Yeah, i wouldnt easily change it would really really have to be good!! Looking forward to Dota 2!!!! So frigging excited!

I totally agree! this is gonna be a deciding factor.

Also, when Dota 2 comes out, I am 100% sure that almost every single Dota 1 player is gonna at least play several games of Dota 2... Here where the balance is gonna be decided... If Dota 2 proves to be worth it, as in the game is merely an improvement to Dota 1 and not a total change in gameplay/strategy, IMHO Dota 2 will be the new reigning game of all...

I believe that overtime Dota 2 will take over and players of Dota 1 will switch over.The real question is how fast that's gonna happen and it really depends on how good Dota 2 is gonna be.

Sure, but always someone want to back and play 2-3 game's sometime's.

I don't think the popularity of DotA will go I'm sure DotA 2 players will play a round of normal DotA here and there... and the people that never played DotA and play DotA 2 will certainly try the first thing
