| I just started playing dota 2 again, and trying to master the basics. Basically i'm playing random just to get the basics and shit, but i get really flamed by a lot of people calling me a noob, and not being nice (usually when i play a hero i never played before). I usually silence them i get on with the game but sometimes is not a motivation to keep playing if they constantly keep calling you a noob or insulting you just because you are not a pro in the game.... So ye i kind of like the game, but the community sometimes sucks, some of the people that play it are really ashooles.
Just my 2 cents.

| Here's my 3 cents. If you are going to try out the new hero (or a hero u have never played before): 1. Read at least 2 guides (ex. at playdota.com) 2. Play at least 1 game against BOTs 3. Watch at least 1 replay of someone that knows the drill Then you can join a game with other people having clear conscience and also improving your game play by far. The chances are you will not get flamed and raged over however there will be always some idiot raging because he failed his line and is looking for someone to throw blame on so dont worry about such ppl. You have to distinguish those ;P Since noone like to get raeped (and you are luckly not to if you follow those 3 steps) I thinks it's a good idea for starters. |

Problem is i don't wanna depend on any hero (and i don't have that much time to read guides), i wanna just master the basics, and well try to have fun in the process I would just play bot games till i get confidence enough to start playing against other players. I have a few heros that i play better than others, tough right now i just want to play random and get to know all the heros. thanks for your 3 cents tough!! |

| Learning this game is a long process and in my opinion devoting much time is inevitable in this case there are a few good BASIC guides like this: simple-ways-to-improve-your-game I really like it because of the unformal language perhaps you will find some time to peak on it someday. Imo it's really worth it. Was I on your place I'd usually pick intelligence support heroes especially RANGED ones at least until you'll get most of the heroes abilities and stuff Learn to watch your minimap and controll the misses at all times + dont die when not necessary = less flame and more good works |

| imo basics differ from hero to hero, best to master a single role (to a degree), such as roaming, supporting, carrying, etc. then move to a different role in that way simply because the difficulty of basics (i.e last hitting, ganking, farming) differs from hero to hero and you will find that while 1 support can be really easy to gank with (e.g crystal maiden) another support (e.g. lina) can be quite difficult to gank with, (at least without a reliable stun). |

This for sure. Playing a bunch of bot games with new heroes is a great way to learn and practice different roles. I have learned and continue to learn so much every day from watching various videos, like gameplay from Purge, casts of pro games for leagues like The Defense and Raidcall. What can also help tremendously is to get some of your friends into the game, or play with other people. My friend and I got into Dota 2 around the same time and we play together about every other day. It's helped us both tremendously to share what we've learned with each other, and it helps to play with people who won' judge you. The teamwork aspect also makes everything better. One thing that we do now and then is go into a private match, just the two of us, no bots, and just practice things like laning against each other with different heroes, practicing lane balance, ward spots, stacking, pulling, and virtually every other aspect that we can. Doing that in a no stress environment that you can just restart is so great and has made us both much better players. If you want to be able to just jump right into heroes, it's best to learn your roles first: carry, support, nuker, initiator, jungler, etc. Once you have a fairly strong grasp of what each of these need to do, you can make a good guess as to how a hero can be played. Now, your first time playing a hero you should never expect to do well, just stick to your role and try to learn the hero. A couple of weeks ago I randomed a Clockwerk, whom I had never played before, but I understood his role in a game, and had seen a few videos with him played, because of this fore knowledge I was able to go 20 and 10 and do really damn well as him, which was quite unexpected, and he's now one of my favorite heroes ha. But like I said: friends. Play with people you know, practice, research, and learn. You'll have a much more enjoyable time at the game. Everyone has bad games now and then, and they can be frustrating; just don't let that discourage you, and have another go! |

| If you want to get better you will have to dedicate a good amount of time to the game. Even if you want to play it for the fun. See, right now you're not getting fun because of the big troll community that roams the game. But think little. If you play bad you might be ruining the fun for other people. So try sticking to bots and tutorials for a decent amount of time. Untill you feel like you've learned something. You can check some basics even on d2p's youtube channel and many others. You can watch streams from good players. See their actions and try to learn from them. Also notice the mistakes you make comparing to them. Good luck and keep playing ! |

| Games like dota have a very aggresive community, for example most of the posters on Playdota.com are very elitist and they wont tolerate anyone who came from lol to dota |

| I feel like rather than randoming, you should choose a role you like and actively pick heroes that fulfill that role. That way a.) you'll improve much faster than if you random every game b.) your teammates won't flame you as much (you'll be getting better faster) c.) you won't seem as lost when you try out new heroes (heroes that perform the same role usually play similarly) d.) you won't come to rely on that 250 something extra gold that you get from randomming I'd suggest you try out a supportive role if you don't have friends. if you play as a party I feel like the carry role is easier to master, but if you pick a carry and play badly when you're pubbing alone you willl probably get flamed. good luck with continuing to learn the game |

| You cannot go wrong if you play against bots first, especially co-op bot... well it may not simulate real player reaction but hey, the first thing to learn on dota 2 is the basics. and i think bots provide most of them really |

| People tend to take this game too seriously at low levels for some reason, just ignore them and continue doing your thing... JUST DON'T TAKE THE CARRY'S FARM AS A SUPPORT!! |

| @ topic
either find friends to play and improve with or deal with it. the community in this genre is harsh because how would you feel if you get a bad player in your team who will ruin your experience for about 30-40minutes? |
