| Subject: DotA 2 Coaching System - Unfair Advantage? | |
| - Quote :
- As for what could help new players become more than just currency fodder, as they basically are the current world of DotA, Valve is looking at features outside of skill-based matchmaking. Interactive guides and a coaching system are being implemented to give top-level players a reason to help out the "noobs." Interactive guides written by the best players will be able to highlight strategic aspects of DotA play, while coaches will be able to get even more hands on. A DotA 2 coach will be able to see his/her student's screen and chat with him/her privately to help out just like a hired instructor. These coaches will be rewarded for positive feedback, though again, the specifics haven't been worked out.
As stated, DotA 2 will implement coaching system, making game much more easier for beginners. And that's ok, i mean, coaches will help beginners with their easier start, telling them what to do, what not to do, what to buy, where to go and so on, but that can also be unfair advantage cause additional set of eyes can see something what original player can't. What is still ok for beginner. But, I, with 3-4 years of experience in DotA atm, will also be able to ask for a coach. I personally won't do that, but thousand of wannabes and jerks will. Imo, this system has potential for ultimate abusing. |

| Yes, you have a point. I also think that coaching is good system for beginners, but there should be some regulations for that. In way that you must get xx level of your account before applying for a coach or forbiden asking for a coach after xx level. But that's highly unbalanced, cause someone will still be a beginner after 20 lvl of his/her account (if he/she just started to play), and someone who played DotA, as you did, won't be a beginner even with 1st level of your acc. |

| Hmm, it's a good idea but it got its flaws as you say...
Perhaps they should make a different "league" like a "training league" or such, where you can use this feature. |

| what if, before you could be a coach, you should have good rep among the community? I mean, this way there will be no foul play. |

| Yeah, like getting to 20th level before sending application to become coach. But who will coach till then? |

| I think its great to be honest. Its definitely going to make it a lot easier to learn the game. It might not be as bad as you think if your couch's view is locked onto your unit alone. So then its as good as having a mate sit next to you and coach you.
I am looking forward to this coaching system and i think i will be making use of it in the future. |

| Der.. it's going to be vs AI obviously. Now this is only a guess by I'm expecting the coach to have a hole separate menu with options for creating different scenarios in which the student must learn.
He'll probably have the same options such as that dota testing map in which you can put hereos where ever you want and give them commands.
This is the feature I'm most interested in and I expect it to be done perfectly otherwise I'll rage quite alot. |

| Avalon are you saying it would cause an unfair advantage for your team vs another team?
Also, I want to point out a part of the quote that you may have missed: "A DotA 2 coach will be able to see his/her student's screen and chat with him/her privately to help out just like a hired instructor"
The coach will only be able to see what the trainee can see. |

Yes, and of course having another set of eyes to say "hey mid is mia, you should probably play more passive just in case" would be an advantage. But I'm sure it will be designed in a way to prevent abuse. For instance: -Specific game types where coaching is allowed -Max level to use coach, min level to be a coach. -No camera control on the coach(already confirmed) -Allow the coach to opt out of the game if he knows he is with a smurf -Make the trainee/coach random to prevent two friends from abusing the system. If someone desides to smurf(high skill/level player using a new account) and use a coach, the guy is already abusing the system anyway. It happens. I think this coaching system is a great idea, and I can't wait to see it in action. Cool stuff will always be abused, but you shouldn't remove a good idea just because a couple assholes want to try to cheat the system. |

| coaches should be trained first or require some online certificate and instead of saying "hey mid is missing" say "what does your minimap show now?" people learn better if you ask questions instead of telling them what to expect |
