| Hello Dota2portal community, I joined your ranks earlier today and here I am making my very first post on this site.
A little bit of background, I'm a senior student at the Chemical Engineering program in Texas A&M and graduating Spring 2012, yes I'm old. I've played dota right before Icefrog took over, if I remember correctly it was Syllabear's group in charge but the map was still mainly Guinsoo's. I didn't like the game due to imbalance issues (death ward and global faceless void stun) and instead focused more on WC3 ladder. However, I was reintroduced to game again by a friend in late 2005 and I've been playing the game since then. Right now I have around 20 friends whom I taught throughout the years, and each weekend some of us gather and play. I have years of experience and played with some pro players back in the day, so I have a pretty solid dota1 background.
That being said, I've never played any of the games that were inspired by dota, be it HoN, LoL or what have you but I am informed about them. Anyways if you have any questions/remarks feel free to post them. |

| Welcome, Itsmee! Tt's nice to have you aboard, as we don't have many active American members (yet).
I'm curious to find out who are the proffesional DotA players you played with/against.

| haha sorry to disappoint you guys, I'm not from the U.S. While I do study at Texas A&M I do it in the Qatar Campus, not in College Station campus. Regarding the professional players, I've played against some MYM members (Slahser, Maelk, Pusher, Merlini), Syndicate, and Say_imba_plz (imbaQ), I've also been in lobby once with Loda but had to leave (aka got kicked). Most pro players aren't nice to say the least so they tend to ignore any chat in game or after, except Merlini. The guy is very nice and funny, although he wasn't nice to demon back in the day when he used to suck up to him. Anyways I stopped bothering or trying competitive a long time ago, simply because of lag. In all the games with these players I had 300+ ping and even though I managed to play ok, I could never play like I do on LAN. Its just a matter of of fast response, if you're playing normal players then with good awareness and fast response you could manage even with delay, but against professionals you need to have absolutely no delay to compete.
Speaking of dota celebrities, the most important one that I've had contact with is the one and only Syllabear. But that's a story for another time as well ;) |

| Its funny that despite all the suffering and the whining, I don't recall anything particularly bad about chemical engineering. hmm lets see, there's this course called "Physical Chemistry" and its everyone's nightmare, you need to be good in chemistry lab (accurate and efficient time- and product-wise), oh and Organic Chemistry, if you had any trouble with it in highschool keep in mind that it only gets harder. Also in my campus, chemical engineering is the hardest and the first to receive ABET accreditation, but all in all nothing is hard if you put your mind to it.
Chemical engineers are usually very well paid, but getting a job in the first place isn't an easy task, which is also the case for all majors. Basically the year after graduation is the worst year of your life, you will be busy all the time applying to different companies, doing interviews 24/7, and worrying about your future. However if you get past this point and manage to get a job then you will be rich in a couple of years by doing a job you like. |

I never really liked Organic Chemistry, but it's not much of a problem for me. Always liked Chemistry. Is there a lot of Maths in it? I'm best at the calculation parts in anything I do. |

| @Spades: Oh hi, Do you go by a different alias in PD? Also I've added the sig @GravedamN; There's always calculations, especially with courses like Quantitative Analysis and another course that is very math intensive (can't remember what its called). Besides, we also have to take Calculus 1-3 and Differentials (Cal4). Those are the ones that come to mind. |

Thank you, my English isn't particularly good, its just that I take my time when I make a post in order to make it as clear as possible. @banebu: I will try to stay active, but I definitely wont be as active as I am now since my university starts next week. |

| @Grave: not much as a matter of fact. There is Organic 1, and Organic 2. Each with their labs. Also, there's a polymers course in which you need good background in organic chemistry. I apologize for the late reply my friend. @Faent: Glad I did that too, otherwise I wouldn't have known someone with such a nice personality as you are |
