PostSubject: Re: rage and bad manners

In DotA I relied heavily on dotapickup to provide me with rage-free gaming. I really hope there will be communities for everyone to join that has good manners rules so people can enjoy the game, even when thing doesn't go that well.

I think some of the factor of the rage is maybe increased cause of HON(no offence HON players) also I ilike your attitude Khader. I wish everyone could be like cpt and khader. The community would be so much bet ter. I had an idea maybe they could implement something like you volonteer for training new players and you get a notification there has been a new player that has joined the game would you like to train him. Maybe then the raging at new players would be reduced.

they should have something like that yes, where you can chose if you want to have new players in the que with you. or just people with "shit loads of hours played". something that makes it more reliable than the current matchmakeing.

and yeah hon did create alot of rage. almost ruind my enjoyment in mobas in general Razz

It seems as tho there will be a mentor program on DotA 2, but I have yet to read anywhere on how this will work.

@ Cpt: Like in HON with unrated matches some vet players would intentionally start unrated matchs to play "scrubs" and troll them I think it would be abused in Dota2 if people could choose to play with new players intentionally. I would like to see what the mentor a new player thing is all about. I'm also worried that if they use scaleing heavily once it goes Live F2P we might see alot of good player creating new accounts just to roll noobs up all day same thing people do with FPS games that have ranking systems.

Just this morning I played with someone who only had 10 games and they picked Temp assasin. Our Phantom assasin started raging at the temp for first blood. First skill Invis...... after 4th death to Lina I asked them to not use stealth when Lina was in LOS.... After asked them to stay close to me and only go stealth in the woods and we won. The player did feed the pretty bad but it seemed they learned to not use stealth near a AOE/ stun toon. I think they were very new to mobas and didn't have a good feel for enemy skills and knowing when to push or pull a lane. These are ideals in playing that can't be picked up from watching a youtube video or even playing bots its something that comes from your first 3-5 lvls of laneing with the enemy to see their reactions before you start going for ganks.

Things that actually upset me ( I am human and do get mad sometimes) are needy players..... " Someone get me a gem!!!!" or " I get immortalitly when we do Roshan" .... No you don't our Tide or our best carry will or the person that just solo'd him will get it. And people that pick a great mid toon then only want to lane with a buddy or just refuse to lane mid...... I Mid laned Lion against Pudge because Lina and Luna were on comms together the other lane had Ax and Riki.... yeah we failed but it was ok because the first to leave was luna and lina lol.

There was talk about a coach system that is true and i wish there will be. I see your fear in f2p trolling we will just hope for something against it like. 1 acc per pc ip. If that is iimplemented then people playing with people with similiar ammount of games would be great. Also lion is as a good mid hero as lina and luna even better so no complaining to that. P.s I would be one of the first coaches in dota 2 to share my hard learned knowlede to new people. I see this like a new player joins dota and it asks do you won't a coach to help you learn to play dota 2 then it messages a random online coach that assigned for a coach if. He wants to train him if not then another coach gets the message and eventually one accepts and they get paired somehow. That's an idea od it.

PostSubject: Re: rage and bad manners

I agree with the original poster. DotA 2 has started development that is moving towards creating a community of gamers who want every DotA match to be a good match. With reporting and increasing time for abandoning games, rage-quitters are discouraged to leave games. However, I agree that people are not punished severely enough. On another, related topic, it seems like too many noobs are getting keys to playing DotA2. It's cool that more people are playing, but it's annoying when every other game has a leaver or more and just ruins the game for everybody else. Another thing that could be added could be the original function in DotA where you got the leaver's gold and items so that you can balance the game at least somewhat. Adding the switch function could be kind of cool too. In general though, it would be nice to see some more disincentives for noob rage quitters and people who are smoking weed and feeding because they have no life.

Of course bad language and bad manners are not a good thing for the community , but let's be honest , every community , of any game or even in reality it's filled with bad manners and such . The advantage in DotA 2 is that we can mute those player and report them for bad behavior .

However when I play with friends, there is always this unspoken rule to back your friend up in any argument even if he's being a noob in the game.

And hell if you admit online that he's your friend, everyone will want to burn you on a stake as well.

At least when you're playing with complete strangers, you can be honest with your true feelings.

P.S. The law of internet gaming is to blame everything else before you blame yourself. And if all else fails, check their grammar.

I actually laughed very hard at this.

Well, to be honest I think everyone did went through some immaturity phase when you blame everyone else for making mistake without even looking at yourself, I did too. I remember when I first played DotA (Dota one), I was trolling around, bragging how good and when plans fail, blame. Then when I started giving attentions on competitive scene, I realized how did the pros played. For example, in a recent live stream game by our dear Dendi (a.k.a Vikachu), he showed his awesomeness when he was match -matched with an illiterate in a pub game. The guy insisted on solo mid and keep insulting Dendi but still he did not rage back. They lost the game and in the next game again Dendi was queued with the same guy again. The same thing happened, two of them went mid with Dendi as Brood and that guy as Zeus. Dendi didn't say a thing and helped him much by giving vision of runes/ganks with webs and giving him a slave when he was low on health, etc. They ended up winning that game, which is pretty amazing. Rethink of it, some of us might just ragequit or even hate Zeus the whole game, causing a ~20 minutes "GGWP". So, next time just ignored rages, be yourself, do what you should do, enjoy the game and muted the motherf*cker if you need.

Unfurtunatly everyone know that to play dota you need a skin of steel. If you are going to feel bad everytime someone calls you names or say that you suck or just pointlessly rages at you, well, dota might not be for you. Im not saying that raging is ok and that you just have to get thougher, im saying that there will always be ragers an flamers as long as the game is meant in a way that one team loses and one team wins... (so forever...)

I find just starting the game in voice chat often stops rage. if people realize they are gaming with other real people even a loss can end up being ok.

I know the feeling that I think you're trying to convey here, CptPlanet. I've given the issue some thought, since I've been on the recieving end more than once. My hypothesis is that even though the community can be very unfriendly and intimidating, the influx of new players offsets the numbers of players that leave due being flamed etc. There is therefore no consequence for the ragey players, as they'll always have someone new to play against. Ragers are not enough to kill the player base. If they where then I think that raging would eventually die out, since these players would be weeded out by the administrators/moderators because these kind of games are dependent on new players staying for the community to live and prosper. No community, no game.

What works for me here was very elegantly verbalized by Ghandi; "Be the change you want to see in the world". I ignore the ragers (as best as I can) and stay friendly to everyone else. For me this is just a game and some people are just twats ;)

Even though we all get angry we must not go full ape s**t during the game. Yes, there are lots of moments when I get frustrated about bad teamplay, people not listening, even on my own mistakes, but as in any community we have to keep to some rules of decency. We can not have a good game without being just a little respectful one with eachoters.

You just have to stand above all the ragers and flamers. dota2 is a teamgame and trying your best is the best you can do, since nobody can change what happened in the early game. Discussions will generally lead to a big argument between 2 players, so if you can feel from the actions of that particular player that he is not to be argued with you should not start in the first place.
