I queued for matchmaking, found a match, loaded in... and I could only choose from three heroes: clockwerk, bounty hunter, and warlock. I hadn't tried any of those three out beforehand, and I was thrown into a match with those three as my only choices; needless to say, I was caught off guard. I chose bounty hunter and decided to roll with it and hoped I wouldn't get stomped too hard.

I ended up carrying to victory that game in a 4v5 after our enigma disconnected, and felt pretty good about it, but I was wondering if anyone knows why I could only pick from three heroes at selection?

It's one of the various modes from original dota called Single Draft or SD every player has 1str 1 int and 1 agi to choose from.

You play SD (Single draft) mode !
you need to change option in matchmaking to AP only

Meaning there are 3 random heroes for you to choose
