PostSubject: Keeping score

Is there actually a smaller program that you can use to keep your score, basically something like Dotakeys or warkeys. the only diffs is that it keeps score of your Dota Score regardless of where you play, as long as you activate it, it will keep score and possibly have a percentage of say your win to loss ratio or kill to death ratio.

IF not...

Does anyone have an idea of what it takes to create such a program.
Is it possible and would you use it?

Nah thats not actually what i'm looking for, something that keeps your scores.
Such as:
Creep kills and denies.
Hero Kills
Deaths
Assists
Tower Kills

Something like this will help in some cases to determine what kind of player you are.
People that might have more assists might be suited more for support positions etc.
I can see a lot of uses for a program like this.
It would be really cool if you could know what your percentage is for Kill to death ratio or your average kills per game. This can be very helpful for clans or just general tourney statistics.

although it's nice idea, think of next thing > every third game you play you end up with some noobs in your team and although you are not noob, you ll end up loosing the game and getting lame results just cause of those other idiots in your team.

You have a valid point there good sir.

Although i think its something that comes with the game its always going to happen.
Someone will drop out and the game is a re or you will be stuck with a bunch of noobs.
I am not saying its possible every game but you do have the ability have a decent score, i have had games like that where i end up with a bunch of new guys and our opponents are decent player but i am still able to maintain a decent score simply because i have assessed the situation and played in an according manner.

So bringing that to light, would you still not use the program?

In my honest opinion, i still would because event though you still get those noob games you also end up with the exact opposite at times where you are carried by players better then you ergo boosting your score.
Really it happens, i have had such experiences where i play a high leveled -CM game and -sadly- my team carries me, i just manage to keep my head above water or i have a positive score.

Im not sure how Europe works or any other country for that matter but here in South Africa (im sure other platforms work in the same way) we receive exp per game regardless of win or lose... which i think is crap.
Why should you get exp if you lose? Did you earn it?
So then bad players are allowed to play in higher level games, theres no way of telling whether or not they are reliable. The only way to do this is through reputation of a player. Maybe its about time a system like this is created.
I think/hope Dota2 will have a feature like this.
Think of the possibilities.

yes, system has many advantages. But as you said, you have same chances to end up playing with bunch of new players which will boost your score same as you have chances you end up with bunch of new players. in each case, game would be imbalanced and final score of it would not be fully valid for me..

this program should only work if we are to play balanced games. so when you play the game, allies and opponents must be similar account level to you. imagine the case where you, as a 40 lvl player, join 5 lvl games and own there. those situations should be banned or not counted for your final score. system has, imo, many flaws, but i agree with you that there should be some way of detailed status of each player.. dk :/

First i moved this topic into tavern category, but now i see we can debate pretty much about it. so i will move it to official dota 2 ideas category.

Agreed it has got many flaws.
Do you think such a system could work for Tourneys then.
Its all balanced. Maybe there could be another way of keeping stats in Pubs but i think tourneys should be ok then.
It makes it easier then to point out who got most kills, farm, assists and even to point out the weakest link in a team.

I see what you mean about it not suiting pubs but i think it has a place in competative games?
What say you?

it only manipulates with few variables within the game. but access to database has only Valve and they are the ones who will have to make such a program. but no, it's nothing complex or complicated.

Well that at least sounds promising.
I look forward to using a program like that.

One of the main reasons i play the game is because of its competitiveness
and i really like to keep track of things like personal stats.
It lets you know where you stand.

So I'm not for that keeping score, maybe just some program which will count number of games.

Ok so instead of having ratios and what not why not simply just number of kills, deaths and assists.
I would like something like that for personal use.
Keep track of your own scores.

I agree with -endzeit- cause every1 looks at ration when there is a ratio... I personally would like to have a score board that shows Deaths, Kills, Assists, Ratio, Games Played, Games Won, Games Lost, Game Win/Lose Ratio, A option to show it publicly or only to your friends or not at all. That is how i would like to keep track of my score...

i would like it to simply be a ranking system where you gain or loose points depending on if you have won, lost, played terribly, played terrific, etc. Something like WoW arena ranking system, that always work, and i wont have some unlucky streak of bad games cuz i was sleepy, and then have a huge DEATH irritating and irremovable number xD

I think this is the best way, because in this way your ranking totally depends on the gameplay, and ofcourse, there would be ranked matches and unranked matches, i you feel just like playing dota for fun, like practicing some techies (that u aint good with) you play a normal pub game, if you got energy for like playing some exciting competitive battle you go for the ranked matches, where you are ranked with ppl of your rank Smile

that has been my idea since i thought on a ranking system

PostSubject: Re: Keeping score

Thats a brilliant idea it like on this chess site i always use to use, where you start of with a rating of 1200 i think... then if you win it increases and if you lose it decreases, more points for higher levels and less points for lower level games played.
I also like the idea where you can choose to play a ranked or just a pubbie.
It gives people the chance to practice a hero without the embarrassment of an extremely low rating yeah ok so if you suck...well then you suck.... but it bothers me that a person could just pick one hero that they are good with or a hero thats good at KS and they might win game because they are fed... so the score reflects that X is a good player but infact he does nothing but play the same hero.. then you get the poor chumps Z that try their best to learn a new hero or have just played a hero in a pubbie and think they can take it to the next level and get their ass whipped but are infact the better player because a. they play more heroes. b. they understand the game better from playing with other heroes.. im not sure if i explained point b properly i hope you understand that.

i would personally really like a rating system like that but i think dude to the nature and style of the game such a rating system might be flawed and will never be successful until it reaches the point where score is tracked to the game and to heroes that you play, so in other words. There is a graph that shows you your score with each hero, lol so imagine those guys who only play one hero...but will have like a hundred games with one hero... and a handful with certain... something like that will make people transparent, it will be so easy to see when a person and/if a person is actually a decent player. E.g if you see a person with the above mention stats you will be inclined to think that if they play a hero that they rarely play you will have a much better chance, infact you will know not think that your chances of success are greater (maybe not always but i would go as far as to say 85% of the time) then if he were to play a hero that he always plays.

Ok so it has pro's and it has cons.. i still think that the cons might out weigh the pro's in the long run... as much as i would like it im starting to think this is a bad idea. I'm sure that there must be a better way of tracking score... or maybe just a more reliable manner. Would love to hear some of your ideas or your thoughts. Does you think a system like this can ever work or are there just to many ways that this system can be abused or maybe just to revealing in a sense that people wont let you join a game because your kill to death ratio is to low??

i think its good (i like it) but also have

negative effect....

1.people want take same side with the good rating people (noob team vs good rating team)
2.is very annoying if you get bad rating (you will get kicked in many room)
3.make people doing fake game (1 person use multiple computer to increase his rating)
4.Poor for newbie/noob/bad inet user
5.KILL STEAL is popular (if there are kill counter/kill rate)
6.reduce player with Support Role

I guess there is just to many cons in such a rating system.
Maybe a system like that would be better suited for competitive games where people care less about individual scores and more about the team win.. but then again what is the point of such a system if kills do not matter?

If you are a pure support player and that is the style you prefer it might reflect that you are a bad player. Pah to hell with rating systems, play the game, win, lose... it doesn't matter. Play it and enjoy it. Deep down you know your value as a player and other people will also know based on your reputation in the community.
